Scholarly Success: Navigating the Rough Seas of Contemporary Scholarly Publishing In-Person

The scholarly communication landscape constantly changes, and not always for the better. Hoaxes such as predatory publishers, paper mills, hijacked journals, and irresponsible use of artificial intelligence abound. As a result, navigating the scholarly publication process can be confusing, complex, and fraught with challenges that may jeopardize the integrity and impact of scholarship. This workshop is designed to equip researchers with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate their way through common perils in scholarly publishing. Whether you are a first-time author or an experienced scholar, this session will provide valuable insights for publishing with integrity.

In this workshop, participants will learn:

  • About changes in the scholarly communication landscape in the past decades.
  • How to identify and avoid predatory journals, conferences, and publishers.
  • Tools and resources for selecting reputable publication outlets.
  • About the benefits and challenges of open access publishing.
  • Resources for staying informed about scholarly publishing issues.
